Josh Burack, who cited ``family reasons`` for the move, joined the regional golf tour less than two years ago in October 2016.

The former sports marketing executive took over after the Asian Tour abandoned plans for a merger with the European Tour, and formed a strategic alliance with the European body instead.

``It is with mixed emotions that I have decided to leave the Tour when reaching the two-year mark,`` the American said in a statement.

``My two children have been urging me to travel less and spend more time with our family, so I want to respect their wishes and not have any regrets of my own later.

``With the Asian Tour in a much stronger position now than when I joined, I know our talented team will be able to continue the progress.``

Under Burack, the Asian Tour has grown to 30 events this year and has resumed organising tournaments in China after a gap of nine years.

His predecessor Mike Kerr left in late 2015 after running into opposition from players over his backing of a full merger with the European Tour.
