Malaysian Open to return to Saujana
Next
year's Carlsberg Malaysian Open will return to Saujana Golf and
Country Club in Kuala Lumpur from February 17-20.
The US$1.21 million championship will be jointly sanctioned by
the Asian and European Tours. Earlier this year, Thai star Thongchai
Jaidee won the title at Saujana's Palm Course, known also as 'The
Cobra'.
Asian Tour Chairman Louis Martin said: "On behalf of all the
Asian Tour players, I would like to thank Carlsberg for their continued
commitment and support."
Inaugurated in 1962, the Malaysian Open has an illustrious list
of former champions which includes the likes of Frank Philips, Jeff
Maggert, Lee Westwood and current world number one Vijay Singh.
Malaysian Golf Association Vice President Dato' Zain Mohd Yusuf
said: "The huge growth and development of the tournament into
a prestigious event that it is today could only have been possible
with the support of Carlsberg as title sponsor.
"Since their involvement as title sponsor back in 2001, we
have benefited from their commitment to the event and to golf in
general within the region."
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Executive Chairman Dato' Jorgen Bornhoft
said: "At US$1.21 million, the event will once again be the
richest national Open in the region. The event is rich in tradition
and attracts world-class players each year."
A total of 150 players from both the Asian and European Tours,
including 10 Malaysian players, will compete in the championship
next February.
