Ladies Asian Golf Tour announces 2007 schedule

The Ladies Asian Golf Tour (LAGT) today announced the tournament schedule for the 2007 season which commences in January and runs through until March. Five events are already confirmed offering a total prize purse of approximately US$ 600,000 – an increase of 30% from 2006.

Two new events will be staged on the tour in 2007 - the US$230,000 Binhai Ladies Open in Shanghai and the US$100,000 DLF Indian Women's Open which will be held in New Delhi. Other events include the Hong Kong Ladies Masters, Macau LAGT Championship and the Thailand Ladies Open.

The increase in prize money and the addition of new events has been attributed to strong commitment from the sponsors and the growing popularity of the Tour among the professionals – many of which are members of the leading Tours of the world including the US LPGA, Ladies European Tour, Korea LPGA, Japan LPGA and Australia and New Zealand LPGA.

Aylwin Tai, Chief Executive of the LAGT said “We are excited to be bringing the LAGT to two new cities in 2007. The addition of New Delhi and Shanghai will not only enhance the quality of the tour but will enable more players in these local markets to participate in the tournaments.”

During the inaugural 2006 season over 200 individual players from 17 different countries competed in the various tournaments on the tour. With a maximum of 120 players eligible to compete in each event, the competition for tour cards is expected to be high.

“We still have three months until the opening tournament and we’ve already been flooded with emails and calls from players throughout the world wanting to compete,” said Koichi Kato, Commissioner, LAGT. “Due to demand we are already planning a qualifying school for the 2008 season with only the top 50 golfers in the 2007 order of merit gaining automatic qualification to the tour.“

Commenting on the tour, Ms. Rae-Vadee T. Suwan, President, LAGT said: “We are especially pleased that the LAGT has received overwhelming support from Golf Associations from around the world. The R&A has awarded the LAGT with financial support to assist us with Ruling and the Korean LPGA will be co-sanctioning the Binhai Ladies Open in Shanghai alongside the China Golf Association,” she continued.

Further support from the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation reinforces the status of the LAGT as the official ladies tour for the region, confirming it as a credible alternative to established European PGA and LPGA tournaments in Asia.

24-26 January Macau LAGT Championship (US$ 80,000)
31 January -2 February Hong Kong Ladies Masters (US$ 80,000)
