VW donates US$15,000 to China junior programme
Volkswagen
has donated US$15,000 to the China Golf Association's (CGA) Junior
Golf Development Fund.
Following the conclusion of a Junior Skins Challenge this morning
at Sanya's Yalong Bay Golf Club to coincide with the staging of
the US$300,000 Volkswagen Masters-China, a cheque presentation was
made by Klaus Schadewald, Chief Operations Officer, Volkswagen China
to the CGA.
Gao Jian-yuan, 12, won six of the nine-hole skins challenge, outscoring
fellow juniors Luo Yo-sheng, eight-years-old and Li Xin-yang, who
is also 12.
It will be a day to remember for the Chinese juniors as world number
seven Retief Goosen, former US Open champion Michael Campbell, European
Tour star Phillip Price and Chinese ace Zhang Lian-wei were present
during the ceremony and handed autographed Volkswagen Masters-China
shirts and caps to them.
Gao, who lives in Haikou, said: I played good this morning,
the course was a bit wet and I felt the greens were quite fast and
the rough is very thick. It was difficult for me.
Ive played golf for more than a year now. I like the
game a lot and among the big names whom I like are Ernie Els and
Tiger Woods. Ernie has a beautiful swing and as for Tiger, its
enjoyable to simply watch him play. These two are the role models
for me.
I felt great to win the game this morning. Hopefully, I can
turn pro as early as possible.
