Aamby Valley Masters to debut on Asian Tour in 2006

The exciting growth of professional golf in India will see the launch of the inaugural Aamby Valley Masters on the Asian Tour next March, officials announced today.

The new US$300,000 event will be staged from March 2-5 at the magnificent Amby Valley Golf Club, near Mumbai. Sahara India Pariwar, one of India's largest conglomerates, has inked an agreement with the Asian Tour to title sponsor the event for a period of three years.

Mr. Seemanto Roy, Head Infrastructure & Housing, Sahara India Pariwar said they were delighted to form an association with the Asian Tour through the Amby Valley Masters.

"The Amby Valley Golf Club was designed with the concept of providing a world-class facility. We want to showcase Indian golf to the world and through the establishment of the Amby Valley Masters, it will help us realise our vision and firmly place Amby Valley Golf Club on the international golfing map.

"We are looking forward to our first major golf tournament on the Asian Tour. Over the past few years, we have been privileged to witness the emergence of many talented Indian golfers such as Arjun Atwal, Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa and we hope the Amby Valley Masters will unearth new talents that the whole of India can be proud of," said Mr. Seemanto Roy.

Asian Tour Chief Executive Louis Martin expressed his confidence that the Amby Valley Masters would spark a golf boom in the sub continent. "Amby Valley is a keen supporter of professional golf as they are also the title sponsor of the Indian Tour. I have full confidence that our new partnership with such a major sponsor in India will benefit professional golf in India as well as the Asian Tour," said Martin.
