Chia and Barr receive albatross awards
The
next time Danny Chia and Scott Barr look at the time, they will
be reminded of one of their career best shots.
The Asian Tour stalwarts were recipients of an Omega Double Eagle
watch on Tuesday, a fine reward for shooting one of the rarest birds
in golf, the albatross, known also as double eagle, during tournament
play.
Chia achieved his magnificent feat at the Enjoy Jakarta HSBC Indonesia
Open in March while Barr shot his albatross at last year's Maekyung
Open. Omega, a sponsor of international golf, rewards players who
shoot the albatross with their Double Eagle timepiece.
Since 1995, there have been only 11 albatross recorded in the region.
Asian Tour Chief Executive Louis Martin was present in the simple
ceremony organised by Omega to present the watches to the players.
Chia holed his second shot at the par five 546 yard first hole at
Emeralda Golf and Country Club. After a 300 yard drive, the Malaysian,
winner of the Taiwan Open in 2002, holed his second shot with a
five iron from 198 yards out.
Singapore-based Barr shot his albatross on the par five fourth hole
at the Nam Seoul Golf Club in 2005.
