Asian Tour stars reach out to young golfers

The Asian Tour stalwarts took time off from their hectic schedule over the past two weeks as they reached out to young aspiring golfers through the Tour’s association with The First Tee of Singapore

The Asian Tour is an Official Supporter of The First Tee of Singapore which is a non-profit organisation aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of the young people through golf.

The First Tee of Singapore took advantage of the array of stars present at the recent Barclays Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club as they brought over 70 kids to the tournament.

Behind the excitement of the opening day at the Barclays Singapore Open, local hero Lam Chih Bing went off course to spend time with the children as he guided them on the basics of the game.

The kids were given a second opportunity to swing it with the pros when American Clay Devers conducted another clinic the following day. The young enthusiasts were also treated to the Golf Improvement Zone where they were exposed to the new Explanar Training System.

The youngsters were once again brought face to face with the top players during the Annual Mini Golf Tournament organised by The First Tee of Singapore last weekend.

Nearly 150 children took part in the tournament where different activities including a nine-hole tournament, putting contest, target shooting, longest drive, nearest to the pin, life skills and a golf rules quiz were conducted.

Apart from the activities arranged for the day, the children had the opportunity to mingle with Asian Tour Chairman and player Kyi Hla Han of Myanmar and Australia’s Unho Park. Both the Singapore-based pros later conducted a mini clinic and interacted with the kids while demonstrating their skills using The First Tee equipment.

Han said: "It's a tremendous opportunity for the Asian Tour to be involved with youth development. Our association with The First Tee of Singapore provides us with the opportunity to give back to the game and our players are truly committed to the cause. We hope our involvement will make a difference to young aspiring golfers from Singapore."
