Asian Tour finds new home on Sentosa
The
Asian Tour will be on the move in December when its headquarters
are relocated to Sentosa Island, Singapore.
In a strategic partnership with Sentosa Development Corporation,
Asian Tour Chief Executive Louis Martin said the Tour was delighted
to be a part of Sentosa's grand vision of becoming a premier leisure
destination in the world.
"As the fastest growing international Tour, we are proud and
honoured to be moving our headquarters to Sentosa, which is one
of Asia's top destinations for recreational and leisure facilities.
"We fully appreciate the support and assistance from Sentosa
Development Corporation as Sentosa is the perfect environment for
us to establish the permanent home of the Asian Tour," said
Martin.
Robert Bird, Executive Director, Sentosa Golf Club said: "Having
worked with the Asian Tour for the last two years on the Barclays
Singapore Open, the opportunity to collaborate on the development
of a new Asian Tour headquarters on Sentosa makes perfect sense.
"We hope this move will further strengthen our relationship
and that it is the first of a series of initiatives which will see
Asian Tour and Sentosa working together to promote golf in Singapore
and the region."
Sentosa Island has the special distinction of being a one-stop
tourist destination south of Singapore where its unique combination
of leisure and recreational facilities include family attractions,
sea sports, golf courses and hotel accommodation.
Just 15 minutes away from Singapore's shopping district, the island
resort is quickly establishing itself as a premier leisure destination
for local residents and a world-class tourist destination for overseas
visitors.
One of the many attractions on the Island is the 36-hole Sentosa
Golf Club, the home of the Barclays Singapore Open. The Championship
is the Asian Tour's flagship event and billed as the Major of Asia
and makes Sentosa the perfect venue for the Tours headquarters.
The Asian Tour will celebrate another record-breaking season in
2006 with over US$24 million in total prize money on offer to the
region's finest players.
