Jin Park 66 gives first round lead at Q-school

American Jin Park took the first round lead after a six-under-par 66 in the Asian Tour Qualifying School Stage One at Plutaluang Golf Course in Pattaya on Wednesday.

Park holds on to a narrow one stroke lead over Canadian Rafael Lee in second spot while Daryl B.Ley of England was in third after a 69.

At the Emerald Golf Club, England’s Jonathan Evans was tied for the lead alongside Australian Neven Basic as the duo carded matching 68s. Japan’s Satoshi Shimouchi and Michael Freake were in joint third position a stroke off the pace.

Finland’s Jaakko Makitalo scored a 68 and was on top of the leaderboard together with Gary Oliver of England at the Pattana Golf and Sports Resort. Hong Kong’s young talent Jimmy Ko, who won the Faldo Series Hong Kong Championship, was in joint 38th place after a 74.

An estimated 45 players from Stage One will join an already exempted 129 players in the Final Stage at Pattana and Emerald Golf Club next week where the top-40 and ties will earn their playing rights for the 2007 season.
