Erofejeff 64 grabs third round lead

Peter Erofejeff delivered a solid seven-under-par 64 as he grabbed the third round lead in the Asian Tour Qualifying School Stage One on Friday.

Erofejeff, who fired the lowest score in the qualifiers at the Pattana Golf and Sports Resort, achieved a nine-under-par 204 total. England’s Matthew Woods carded a 67 two strokes adrift while compatriot Neil Price shot a 66 in joint third. Overnight leader from Finland Jaakko Makitalo dropped to tied third when he was even-par for the day.

Despite a 73, Korea’s Jin Park continued to set the pace in the third round at the Plutaluang Golf Course. After a 209 total, he was one stroke ahead of Australia’s Troy Kennedy who carded a 70.

England’s Lawrence Dodd trails Kennedy, who is the younger brother of Asian Tour member Brad Kennedy, by two strokes after a 71.

At the Emerald Golf Club, leader from Japan Satoshi Shimouchi shot a 68 for a 210 total. He has a two stroke cushion over Australia’s Neven Basic who scored a 70. South African Albert Pistorius and Englishman James Morrison carded matching 71s also in tied second spot.

Only an estimated 45 players from Stage One will make it through to the Final Stage next week. They will join 129 exempted players where the top 40 and ties will earn their playing rights for the 2007 season.
