KJ Choi reaches $10m mark in US

Korea’s Choi Kyung-ju has hit another milestone in his illustrious career when he became the second Asian player to surpass US$10 million in career earnings on the US PGA Tour.

The 36-year-old Korean finished joint ninth when he closed with a six-under-par 64 and carded a 13-under 267 total at the U.S Bank Championship Tournament at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee on Sunday. He walked home with US$104,000 which boosted his career earnings to US$10.04 million.

It was his second top-10 finish in three months as he was placed sixth in the Shell Houston Open in April.

There were only 60 players before Choi to have reached the US$10 million mark. Japan’s Shigeki Maruyama was the first Asian player to surpass that milestone.

Choi has been a regular feature on the US PGA Tour since 2000. He made it through the US PGA Tour’s qualifying school in 1999 and has since won three times in the US.
