Dyson wins European Tour KLM Open title
Asian
Tour member Simon Dyson claimed his second European Tour title when
he triumphed at the first extra hole of the playoff at the KLM Open
on Sunday.
The Englishman, who is ranked fourth on the Asian Tours UBS
Order of Merit, defeated Australian Richard Green after a 12 foot
birdie putt at the par four 18th playoff hole and walked home with
€266,660 at the Kennemer Golf & Country Club. It was the
second win for the 28-year-old who previously won the co-sanctioned
Enjoy Jakarta HSBC Indonesia Open in March.
Dyson enjoyed a bogey-free round on Sunday as he struck five birdies
for a five-under-par 66. At the conclusion of the fourth round,
he was tied on top the leaderboard with Green as both players carded
a four-day total of 14-under-par 270.
The duo finished a stroke ahead of Damien McGrane of Ireland who
was the third round leader.
Dyson carded birdies on the seventh and ninth holes before firing
three consecutive birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th holes. He closed
in with a two feet par putt on the 18th hole.
"I played the best golf I played all week for the last four
holes," said Dyson.
"The short putt at the last I hit too straight and firm but
the putt at the playoff hole dropped deadweight.
"Now I want to win another but I'm running out of tournaments.
Valderrama Volvo Masters would be the icing on the cake, he
said.
Green, however, created history when he broke the course record
by two strokes with a 62 in the third round.
Thai ace Thongchai Jaidee shot a 74 as he finished in joint 53rd
position.
On the Nationwide Tour, Australias Jarrod Lyle, who was in
strong contention at the Xerox Classic, stumbled on the final round
when he shot a two-over-par 72 to finish in tied 14th spot. Lyle,
who was in second spot after the third round, fired four birdies
against six bogeys on Sunday.
