Frog's legs on Gaurav's menu in Sentosa

Golf is usually about dog legs but India’s Gaurav Ghei became entangled with frog’s legs during the third round of the Barclays Singapore Open on Saturday.

His ball came to rest beside a frog taking a beauty sleep on the eighth hole at Sentosa Golf Club.

Short of kissing it, in fairytale fashion, Ghei was at a loss as to the correct procedure.
Referee Fritz Katzengruber was called and quickly outlined what should be done ‘by the book.’

If it was ascertained the frog was dead Ghei would have had to hit his ball as it lay because the animal would be deemed a ‘loose impediment’.

But, if suspected, it was only sleeping he should mark his ball, tickle the frog with his club or a stick and see what transpired as a live animal is termed an ‘animate’ object under the rules.

At first the frog, by this time probably so scared it did not want to utter as much as a croak, refused to budge but after a few minutes it hopped off.

Ghei replaced his ball and went onto make a bogey, probably relieved there was no toad in the hole.

It was only the second time such an incident had happened on the Asian Tour, with a toad sitting atop Wang Ter-chang’s ball at the Myanmar Open during the 1990s resulting in the same ruling and outcome.
