Astro to be co-sponsor of Indonesia Open

Astro announced their Co-Title Sponsorship of the country’s premier golf tournament, the 2007 Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open. Astro will join long term partner Enjoy Jakarta as Co-Title sponsors.

The Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open is one of the richest golf tournaments in Asia offering a prize purse of US$1.05 million in 2007. The Open, co-sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours, carries world ranking points that will attract some of the biggest names in golf. It is one of Indonesia’s truly global sporting events, and a highlight on the regional sporting calendar as well.

The Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open will be held for the first time at the Damai Indah Golf and Country Club on the Pantai Indak Kapuk Course from February 15-18, 2007. With a picturesque yet challenging course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., next year’s Championship will prove to be a test to some of the best players in the world.

The announcement of the 2007 event together with Astro’s three year sponsorship was held at the Gran Melia Hotel in Jakarta. Present at the announcement ceremony were the Governor of Jakarta Bpk. Sutiyoso, President Director/Chief Executive Officer – PT Direct Vision, Mdm. Nelia Molato – Sutrisno, Bpk. Daddy Hariadi, Executive Treasurer of the Indonesia Golf Association (PGI), Managing Director of Parallel Media Asia, Keld Kristiansen, David Garland of the European Tour, Patrick Young, Director – Tour Development of the Asian Tour, Senior Advisor to the Indonesia Open, Ibu Miranda Goeltom, Executive Director of Damai Indah Golf and Country Club, Ibu S. Christine Wiradinata.

“Astro is proud and excited to be associated with one of Indonesia’s top sporting events. We have witnessed the tremendous growth of the Indonesia Open in the last two years and we are now pleased to be able play a major role in the further development of the national Open on the international stage,” said Mdm. Molato-Sutrisno.

Mdm. Molato-Sutrisno added that the sponsorship supports the overall brand strategy of Astro.

“The association with such a prestigious event provides an exciting opportunity for Astro to build greater brand recognition in an increasingly competitive and globalised world. Our sponsorship will enable us to help develop one of the largest national sporting events in Indonesia with a live television platform to over 60 countries. We believe such an event reinforces our commitment to Indonesia and enhances the Astro brand presence locally and internationally,” said Mdm. Molato-Sutrisno.

As inaugural Co-Title partner to the Indonesia Open, The City of Jakarta believes that the event is effective in showcasing to the world that Jakarta is a top business and tourism destination. At this year's event, England's Simon Dyson claimed the title.

“The growth of the Indonesia Open has been unbelievable. Since its debut as a million-dollar event in 2005, it has quickly established itself as one of the top golf events in the region, become a showcase for the City of Jakarta, as well as for Indonesia in general. We are glad to work with Co-Title sponsors Astro to build on the valuable contributions of our partners in the past to take the event to the next level,” said Bpk. Sutiyoso.

Bpk. Daddy Hariadi said that PGI is very excited that the 2007 event will be held at Damai Indah Golf and Country Club on the Pantai Indah Kapuk Course.

He added that PGI is thrilled that the Indonesia Tourism Board are continuing to build upon their association with the event which began in 2005, and are committed to showcasing Indonesia and the event to the global audience.

Asian Tour’s Young said “We are looking forward to another entertaining Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open with the talented Asian Tour players producing some more great golf”.

Garland reiterated European Tour’s commitment towards the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open and is looking forward to another great event in 2007.

Ibu Miranda Goeltom, the Senior Advisor to the Indonesia Open, believes that the charity element to the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open will again be a main cornerstone to the event as in previous years.
