Singh makes US Open cut and lies 53rd
Indias
star Jeev Milkha Singh squeezed through the halfway mark after a
six-over-par 76 in the second round of the US Open on Friday.
The Indian talent was in joint 53rd position with a two-day total
of nine-over-par 149 alongside Americans John Cook, Tim Herron,
Tommy Armour III, Tom Pernice Jr, Ben Crane, Ben Curtis, Englishman
Paul Casey, Stephen Gangluff of Canada and Japans Ryuji Imada.
Former Asian Tour regular Ted Purdy was also in tied 53rd spot when
he improved with a 71 at the Winged Foot Golf Club.
Only the top 60 and anyone within 10 shots of the lead qualify for
the third round.
The 34-year-old had a nervy start to the second round when he struck
back-to-back bogeys at the second and third hole holes. But Singh,
the Asian Tours UBS Order of Merit leader, regained his footing
through birdies at the fourth and fifth holes before dropping a
shot at the sixth hole. He suffered a double bogey on the par four
ninth hole and ended his round with three more bogeys on the 15th,
17th and 18th holes.
Despite improving with a 75, Korean stalwart Choi Kyung-ju failed
to make the cut when he was achieved a two-day total of 151 in tied
73rd position . Choi shot two birdies, four bogeys and a double
bogey.
It was also a disappointing round for Indias Jyoti Randhawa
who shot a 75 in tied 82nd spot. Randhawa struggled with the front
nine when he carded five bogeys before recovering with a birdie
on the 10th hole. He finished off the round with a bogey on the
14th hole and a total of 152.
American Steve Stricker took over the lead when he carded a 69 while
Scottish sensation Colin Montgomerie trailed by a stroke after a
71.
