Singh closes with 76 for joint 59th spot
India's
Jeev Milkha Singh signed off from a brutal US Open on Sunday with
a six-over-par 76 that saw him finish in tied 59th place.
The Asian Tour star, who had qualified for the year's second major,
accumulated a four-day total of 302 at Winged Foot Golf Club. Australian
Geoff Ogilvy claimed his first major title by one stroke from Phil
Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Colin Montgomerie.
This was the second time that Singh had qualified and played in
all four rounds at the US Open, which set-up was one of the toughest
ever. Not a single player broke par after four rounds, with Ogilvy
totalling five-over-par 285.
American Ted Purdy, a former regular on the Asian Tour, finished
a creditable tied 26th with rounds of 78, 71, 71 and 73 for a 293
total.
India's Jyoti Randhawa and Korea's Choi Kyung-ju had missed the
cut on Friday.
Singh, the Asian Tour's UBS Order of Merit leader, posted two birdies
against eight bogeys during his final round. In 2002, he also played
all four rounds at Bethpage Golf Club.
