Singh continues fine form in Japan

India's Jeev Milkha Singh, winner of the European Tour's season-ending Volvo Masters last weekend, is still on a roll.

The Asian Tour star fired an opening six-under-par 66 for the joint first round lead in the Yomiuri Memorial on the Japan Golf Tour on Thursday. Singh enjoyed a blemish-free card with four birdies and an eagle.

Korea's Ik Je-chang is tied atop the leaderboard with Singh. Last week, Singh, the current Asian Tour's UBS Order of Merit leader, stunned Europe's top guns in Spain with a one-stroke victory at Valderamma which was his second triumph of the season.

He flew straight back to the Far East and has shown no signs of jetlag with an accomplished opening round in what is his 33rd tournament of the season.

Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng also enjoyed a flying start with a 67 to trail by one shot while Chinese Taipei's Yeh Wei-tze, a former Malaysian Open winner, is further back after a 70.

On the US PGA Tour, Korea's Choi Kyung-ju fired a 72 at The Tour Championship for 14th position. He carded one birdie against three bogeys. South African Retief Goosen, the recent Volkswagen Masters-China winner, and American Joe Durant lead the 27-man field event after matching 68s.
