Singh grabs sole lead in Japan
India's
Jeev Milkha Singh is flying high after his triumph at the European
Tour's Volvo Masters in Spain as he took the sole second round lead
in the Asahiryokuken Yomiuri Memorial in Japan.
Singh, who leads the Asian Tours UBS Order of Merit, blasted
two eagles, five birdies against two bogeys for a seven-under-par
65 on Friday. After a 13-under-par 131 total, the 34-year-old Indian
took a one stroke lead over local talent Tetsuji Hiratsuka who carded
a similar score in the second round.
Last week, Singh surprised Europe's elite field in Spain with a
one-stroke victory at Valderamma which was his second triumph of
the season.
Chinese Taipei's Yeh Wei-tze, a former Malaysian Open winner, improved
with a strong 64 in tied fourth place three strokes off the pace.
After firing matching 68s on the second day, Thai duo of Chawalit
Plaphol and Thammanoon Srirot were in joint 23rd position after
a 139 total. Compatriot Prayad Marksaeng, after a 67 on Thursday,
stumbled in day two with a 74 in tied 46th spot.
On the US PGA Tour, Korea's Choi Kyung-ju struggled in the second
round when he shot a 78 at The Tour Championship. He was in tied
25th place alongside American Ben Curtis with a total of 10-over-par
150. After carding a 67, Australia's Adam Scott, the Barclays Singapore
Open winner, was tied for the lead wih American Joe Durant as both
players achieved a two-day total of four-under-par 136.
