Liang moving up in the world ranking

Asian Tour member Liang Wen-chong has catapulted into 154th position on the latest Official World Golf Ranking.

After spending time competing in Japan in the past few months, the 28-year-old Chinese ace returned to action on the Asian Tour and enjoyed a solid run at the Barclays Singapore Open. Thanks to his outright fourth place finish in Singapore, Liang is now ranked above India’s Shiv Kapur who also improved in 164th position.

Kapur, who was voted Rookie of the Year last season, ended his Singapore campaign a spot below Liang and produced his best result this year on the Asian Tour.

Australia’s Adam Scott is back in the top-five after his first ever successful title defence at the Barclays Singapore Open. Scott defeated South African Ernie Els in the play-off and is now ranked fifth in the world.

Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant slipped down the ranking to 168th in the world. He carded three consecutive 73s at the Sentosa Golf Club and finished in tied 35th spot alongside compatriot Prayad Marsaeng. Prayad broke the 200th mark in the world ranking after his Singapore encounter as he is placed 176th, three spots above Korea’s Charlie Wi.

Aussie youngster Jarrod Lyle was ranked 182nd while Chinese Taipei’s Wang Ter-chang, after his victorious outing at the Brunei Open last month, moved to 183rd position.

With appearances in the US PGA Championship and the British Open, Australia’s young star Andrew Buckle is ranked 103rd in the world. Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee, the runner-up in the Maybank Malaysian Open, slid to 135th spot while Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit leader from India Jeev Milkha Singh improved to 143rd position, three spots above compatriot Jyoti Randhawa who enjoyed a top-10 finish in Singapore.

The other Asian Tour stalwarts include Englishman Simon Dyson who broke into the top-100 in 81st position. Korea’s Choi Kyung-ju was in 51st spot while compatriot Hur Suk-ho is ranked 78th.
