Liang moving up in the world ranking
Asian
Tour member Liang Wen-chong has catapulted into 154th position on
the latest Official World Golf Ranking.
After spending time competing in Japan in the past few months, the
28-year-old Chinese ace returned to action on the Asian Tour and
enjoyed a solid run at the Barclays Singapore Open. Thanks to his
outright fourth place finish in Singapore, Liang is now ranked above
Indias Shiv Kapur who also improved in 164th position.
Kapur, who was voted Rookie of the Year last season, ended his Singapore
campaign a spot below Liang and produced his best result this year
on the Asian Tour.
Australias Adam Scott is back in the top-five after his first
ever successful title defence at the Barclays Singapore Open. Scott
defeated South African Ernie Els in the play-off and is now ranked
fifth in the world.
Thailands Thaworn Wiratchant slipped down the ranking to 168th
in the world. He carded three consecutive 73s at the Sentosa Golf
Club and finished in tied 35th spot alongside compatriot Prayad
Marsaeng. Prayad broke the 200th mark in the world ranking after
his Singapore encounter as he is placed 176th, three spots above
Koreas Charlie Wi.
Aussie youngster Jarrod Lyle was ranked 182nd while Chinese Taipeis
Wang Ter-chang, after his victorious outing at the Brunei Open last
month, moved to 183rd position.
With appearances in the US PGA Championship and the British Open,
Australias young star Andrew Buckle is ranked 103rd in the
world. Thailands Thongchai Jaidee, the runner-up in the Maybank
Malaysian Open, slid to 135th spot while Asian Tours UBS Order
of Merit leader from India Jeev Milkha Singh improved to 143rd position,
three spots above compatriot Jyoti Randhawa who enjoyed a top-10
finish in Singapore.
The other Asian Tour stalwarts include Englishman Simon Dyson who
broke into the top-100 in 81st position. Koreas Choi Kyung-ju
was in 51st spot while compatriot Hur Suk-ho is ranked 78th.
