Bintan named as new venue for Motorola International
The
inaugural Motorola International will now be named the Motorola
International Bintan following the announcement today of a new date
and venue for the tournament.
The Asian Tour event, promoted by Global Premier Sports, will be
held from March 22-25, 2007 at the Gary Player-designed Ria Bintan
Golf Club with a total prize fund of US$350,000.
Ria Bintan is located in Bintan Resorts, which is situated on the
Indonesian island of Bintan, a 55-minute ferry ride from the bustling
city destination of Singapore.
Motorolas sponsorship of this exciting event underscores
our initiative and commitment in the region, said Mr Alan
Nicklos, Vice President and General Manager - Mobile Devices, Motorola
South East Asia.
We are proud to be part of the Asian Tour and host one of
the premier events on the golfing calendar. It is a fantastic opportunity
to demonstrate our leadership in innovation and showcase the Motorola
brands to consumers in South East Asia.
It was earlier announced that the Motorola-sponsored event would
be tri-sanctioned with the PGA Tour of Australasia and Japan Golf
Tour Organisation and staged during the second week of March in
Phuket, Thailand, but this event has been cancelled..
In keeping with the original intention to stage a truly international
event, the Asian Tour and Motorola are delighted to invite 10 players
from both the PGA Tour of Australasia and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation
to participate in the new Motorola International Bintan
"Although our original venue became unavailable, we are pleased
to include our friends from Japan and Australasia in the Motorola
International Bintan. We will continue to work together to achieve
the goal of staging a tri-sanctioned event in the near future,"
said Asian Tour Chairman, Kyi Hla Han.
Han expressed his appreciation to Motorola for title sponsoring
an event for the first time on the Asian Tour. He also thanked Bintan
Resorts and the Ria Bintan Golf Club for their support in hosting
the venue for the tournament.
"Part of the Asian Tour's vision is to create new playing opportunities
in golf's developing nations and the opportunity to work with an
outstanding sponsor in Motorola fits perfectly," said Han.
