Atwal, Randhawa lead chase for Hoylake berths
Indian
stars Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa, both former Asian Tour number
ones, will spearhead the region's bid for more places at next month's
The Open Championship on Monday.
Atwal is amongst the hopefuls at Congressional in the United States
where he will be joined by Asian Tour regulars Ron Won, Edward Loar
and Edward Michaels at the International Final Qualifying.
Former winners in Asia, Ted Purdy and Daniel Chopra, will also shoot
for one of the 12 tickets to Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake
in the 36-hole qualifiers.
Across the Atlantic, Randhawa will be joined by England's Simon
Dyson, Malaysia's Iain Steel and England's Simon Hurd at Sunningdale
in England.
Earlier this month, Randhawa qualified for the US Open through qualifying
but failed to make the halfway cut at Winged Foot.
Last season's Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Thaworn Wiratchant
of Thailand will feature in The Open along with Shiv Kapur of India
and Australians Jarrod Lyle and Unho Park.
Kapur, Lyle and Park qualified for the world's oldest major through
International Final Qualifying in Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore held
in April.
