Pagunsan beats Minoza for local victory
Filipino
rising star Juvic Pagunsan produced a memorable victory at The Country
Club Invitational Championship on Sunday after holding off his idol
Frankie Minoza in a play-off.
The 27-year-old Pagunsan triumphed in a sudden-death play-off with
a par as Minoza, one of Asia's greatest players with multiple wins
across the region, stumbled to a bogey to lift the domestic Philippine
title.
Both players finished the tournament on 287, with Pagunsan carding
a final round 74 and Minoza shooting a 68.
Pagunsan is playing in his rookie season on the Asian Tour in 2006
and much is expected from the former amateur star, who won two gold
medals at the Southeast Asian Games in Manila last December before
he joined the pro ranks.
Marciano Pucay finished third in the event on 289 while Ramil Bisera,
Artemio Murakami and Asian Tour regular Gerald Rosales shared fourth
place on 290.
