On song Singh wins again and enters top 50

Indian ace Jeev Milkha Singh booked his place in the Masters when he claimed his fourth title of the year at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup 2006 on Sunday.

Singh, who set the pace since the second round, delivered a steady even-par 70 on the final day for an 11-under-par 269 total which saw him finish a stroke ahead of runner-up Nobuhiro Masuda.

With the win, Singh has secured his place in the top-50 on the Official World Golf Ranking which has gained him an invite to the US Masters next April. He was previously ranked 55th in the world but reached his goal after his success this week.

Singh had a shaky start in the final round with a bogey on the fifth hole but was quick to reply with a birdie in the following sixth hole. Despite a late charge by Masuda, Singh remained calm as he birdied the 10th hole. He dropped another shot on the 12th but parred the remaining six holes for the win.

Singh has made headlines this year since wining the Volvo China Open in April. He continued his success story in Europe when he lifted the Volvo Masters in Spain which was the season-ending tournament on the European Tour in October. He was crowned the Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit winner after his joint third place finish at the UBS Hong Kong Open and just last week, Singh tasted his first win in Japan at the Casio World Open.

Apart from the four wins, Singh’s steady game is reflected through his 14 other top-10s around the world.

China’s Liang Wen-chong finished in tied fourth after his second straight 68 for a 272 total while Yeh Wei-tze shot a 69 in tied 17th place. Hur Suk-ho stumbled to a 74 in joint 26th spot.

Australia’s Scott Strange was even-par for the day as he finished in joint eighth place at the Blue Chip New Zealand Open on Sunday. Strange, winner of the Philippine Open this year, scored a two-under-par 282 total and ended his campaign three strokes behind champion Nathan Green who carded a 65 for the title.

Former Asian Tour regular Jarrod Moseley improved with a 70 and finished in tied second place on 281 while Kim Felton struck a 75 and was in tied 12th spot alongside Sweden’s Daniel Chopra who leaped up after a 70. Australia’s Brad Kennedy endured a sluggish finish after a 75 in joint 27th place on 286.
