Singh climbs to World Number 47

India’s Jeev Milkha Singh broke into the top-50 on the Official World Golf Ranking after his second triumph in Japan at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup on Sunday.

Singh continued his winning streak when he lifted his fourth title in 2006 which moved him up eight spots to a career-high 47th in the world. As he is expected to remain in the top-50 by the end of the year, Singh will earn an invite to play in the US Masters, which is the year’s first major, next April.

The in-form 34-year-old started the ball rolling after his win at the Volvo China Open in April. He claimed his second Volvo title at the Volvo Masters in Spain in October. He was crowned the Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit champion after his tied third finish at the UBS Hong Kong Open and then enjoyed his first triumph in Japan at the Casio World Open two weeks ago.

With his second success in Japan, Singh has closed in on Korea’s Choi Kyung-ju who is ranked 29th.

Yang Yong-eun, who won the HSBC Champions in Shanghai in November, is currently ranked 34th while Hero Honda Indian Open winner Jyoti Randhawa of India remains in the top-100 in 80th place. In 88th position is Korea’s Hur Suk-ho while Australian young gun Andrew Buckle, who earned his US PGA Tour card for next season, is placed 101st with Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee in 107th.

China’s top golfer Liang Wen-chong is ranked 149th while Prayad Marksaeng of Thailand was in 162nd spot. India’s Shiv Kapur was 10 spots below while the others are Thaworn Wiratchant in 176th place and Chinese Taipei’s Wang Ter-chang, the Brunei Open winner, in 193rd.
