Singh climbs to World Number 47
Indias
Jeev Milkha Singh broke into the top-50 on the Official World Golf
Ranking after his second triumph in Japan at the Golf Nippon Series
JT Cup on Sunday.
Singh continued his winning streak when he lifted his fourth title
in 2006 which moved him up eight spots to a career-high 47th in
the world. As he is expected to remain in the top-50 by the end
of the year, Singh will earn an invite to play in the US Masters,
which is the years first major, next April.
The in-form 34-year-old started the ball rolling after his win at
the Volvo China Open in April. He claimed his second Volvo title
at the Volvo Masters in Spain in October. He was crowned the Asian
Tours UBS Order of Merit champion after his tied third finish
at the UBS Hong Kong Open and then enjoyed his first triumph in
Japan at the Casio World Open two weeks ago.
With his second success in Japan, Singh has closed in on Koreas
Choi Kyung-ju who is ranked 29th.
Yang Yong-eun, who won the HSBC Champions in Shanghai in November,
is currently ranked 34th while Hero Honda Indian Open winner Jyoti
Randhawa of India remains in the top-100 in 80th place. In 88th
position is Koreas Hur Suk-ho while Australian young gun Andrew
Buckle, who earned his US PGA Tour card for next season, is placed
101st with Thailands Thongchai Jaidee in 107th.
Chinas top golfer Liang Wen-chong is ranked 149th while Prayad
Marksaeng of Thailand was in 162nd spot. Indias Shiv Kapur
was 10 spots below while the others are Thaworn Wiratchant in 176th
place and Chinese Taipeis Wang Ter-chang, the Brunei Open
winner, in 193rd.
