Wi earns US PGA Tour card for 2007
Koreas Charlie Wi booked his US PGA Tour card for 2007 after
finishing in joint 16th place in the US PGA Tour Qualifying School
Finals in California on Monday.
He fired a one-under-par 71 for a six-day total of 11-under-par
421 and regained his card after losing his playing rights in 2005.
Wi fired four birdies against a bogey and a double bogey. George
McNeill finished on top of the class after his second straight 67
for a 409 total.
Despite a strong 67 with six birdies against a lone bogey, American
Edward Loar could not meet the top-30 mark as he ended his US Q-School
campaign in tied 58th place. Thailands Prayad Marksaeng, who
endured a poor first round, shot a 69 on the last day and finished
in tied 81st position with a 432 total.
Indias Arjun Atwal struck a 73 and claimed tied 98th spot
but he already has conditional status after finishing 140th on the
money list last season and will compete in approximately 15 events
next year.
Yang Yong-eun, who won the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai
last month, did not compete on the final round as he was disqualified
in the fifth round.
In Japan, Koreas Choi Joon-woo claimed tied fourth position
on the Japan Tour Qualifying School Finals on Monday. Choi shot
a 71 and booked his place in the Asian Tour Qualifying School Final
Stage in Thailand next week.
Thai youngster Prom Meesawat gained his full playing rights on the
Japan Golf Tour as he finished in tied seventh place after firing
his second consecutive 69. With a total of 14-under-par 418, Prom
finished seven strokes behind Koji Iwasaki who took the top spot.
Prom had previously gained a two-year exemption on the Asian Tour
when he lifted his maiden title at the SK Telecom Open in Korea
in May.
New Zealander Eddie Lee was on the mark when he claimed tied 39th
spot after a 427 total. He shot a 69 on the final day and secured
his card on the Japan Golf Tour as only top-40 and ties earn their
full playing rights for the 2007 season.
Hirofumi Miyase carded a 71 in joint 46th place while Akinori Tani
was a stroke adrift after a 72. Richard Lee was also even-par for
the day and finished in tied 84th position
