Wi and Ho tied for sixth in Barbados
The
Korean pair of Hur Suk-ho and Charlie Wi enjoyed a good start when
they scored a five-under-par 66 in the opening round of the World
Golf Championships Barbados World Cup on Thursday.
Wi, the Maybank Malaysian Open winner, and partner Hur were solid
despite the wet and windy conditions firing birdies on the first,
third, seventh and eighth holes and with two more birdies against
a lone bogey on the back nine, the duo completed their round in
joint sixth spot in the fourball (better ball) format.
They were two strokes behind South Africas Rory Sabbatani
and Richard Sterne together with Argentinas Angel Cabrera
and Andres Romero who set the pace after firing matching 64s at
the Sandy Lane Resort's Country Club. Also tied at the top were
Swedish pair of Henrik Stenson and Carl Pettersson.
With two bogeys against an equal number of bogeys, Singapores
Mardan Mamat and Lam Chih Bnig were in lone 22nd position.
At the Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship, local talent
Gavin Flint rose up to tied 26th place after a four-under-par 68
in the second round. Compatriot Terry Pilkadaris, who won the Brunei
Open last year, and Brad Kennedy carded similar scores also in joint
26th spot with a two-day total of four-under-par 140.
The other Asian Tour players tied on 140 were Australias Unho
Park who improved with a 69 and youngster Jarrod Lyle who stumbled
to a 74.
South Australias Gary Simpson shot a 71 for joint 60th place.
It was disappointment for Adam Le Vesconte who missed the cut after
a 73 together with Malaysias Danny Chia who struck a 74 for
a 145 total, two strokes off the mark. Filipino Angelo Que shot
a 74 and Lee Sung of Korea, who struggled with a 75, also failed
to progress to the third round in tied 81st place alongside Scott
Strange who shot his second straight 73. Andrew Buckle endured a
sluggish 74 and it was similar for Lu Wei-lan when he scored a 73
on 147.
The others who missed the mark were Australias Kane Webber
and Tony Carolan and New Zealander Mahal Pearce.
On the Sunshine Tour, Australian Simon Nash nailed four birdies
against a lone bogey as he stood in joint sixth place at the Alfred
Dunhill Championship. The 28-year-old was a mere one stroke behind
Alessandro Tadini of Italy, Englands duo of Oliver Wilson
and Phillip Archer and South Africas Charl Schwartzel and
Wayne De Has who were all tied on top after carding similar 68s.
Asian Tour regular Des Terblanche was in tied 13th when he shot
a 70 while Hendrik Buhrmann, who won the Aamby Valley Asian Masters
in India in May, carded a 71 in joint 23rd place.
