LET and LAGT to cooperate to maximise "tremendous potential"

The ongoing Hong Kong Ladies Masters, the second stop of the Ladies Asian Golf Tour 2007, has had a surprise visitor from the Ladies European Golf Tour (LET).

LAGT Chief Commissioner Koichi Kato and Alexandra Armas, Executive Director of Ladies European Tour

Alexandra Armas, Executive Director of Ladies European Tour, despite her busy schedule, took time to make a detour to visit the LAGT management team at the Discovery Bay Golf Club, the venue for the ongoing US$80,000 Hong Kong Ladies Masters.

"Well, I'm here to get updates from the LAGT and at the same time update the LAGT on the Ladies European Golf Tour. We are looking at the possibility of collaborating in a couple of tournaments," Armas told the LAGT Media today.

A Spaniard, Armas was amazed by the fabulous venue, the setting of the scoring, media and tournament offices and the strong field of players, some of whom she's very familiar with.

Taken on a tour of the venue by LAGT's chief commissioner Koichi Kato, Armas said LAGT had tremendous potential to be a major Tour in the near future. "That's why we (LET) are looking at possibilities to work together in some events to have the best of Europe and Asia together in one or two of the LAGT events," Armas said, adding that it was time to maximise the potential the two Tours have.

According to her, the start is always small and blossoms as the years go by. "In 1998 LET had only eight events. It went up to 14 in 2002 and currently we have 25 events with a total purse of 11 million euros," said Armas.

Meanwhile Kato complimented Armas for taking time off to visit the Hong Kong Ladies Masters.

"We are very pleased to work with LET to bring more big names to the LAGT tournaments by way of co-sanctioning. In fact the chairman of LET Karen Lunn was once a player on the Asian Tour and has even voiced her intention to play in the Asia Miles-Binhai Ladies Open in March," he said.

Kato added that LAGT is keen to capitalize on the long lasting relationship it has with LET to promote women's golf not only between the two continents, but across all six continents in the world.
