KLPGA offers slots to top LAGT players

In view of the growing popularity, strength and quality of players in the Ladies Asian Golf Tour (LAGT), the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) today announced several offers to the LAGT with immediate effect.

LAGT Chief Commissioner Koichi Kato told a media conference at Binhai Golf Club that KLPGA had made three offers to LAGT through its Secretary General Kim Il-gon.

He said the winner of LAGT Order-of-Merit this year will be eligible to play in four KLPGA tournaments beginning next year (2008).

"The winner will play two tournaments in the first half of the KLPGA calendar of events (Jan 1-July 31) and another two in the second half (Aug 1-Dec 31) every year until further notice," said Kato.

He also added that KLPGA's second offer is for the winner of the ongoing Asian Miles-Binhai Ladies Open. "The winner in this tournament will be eligible to play in KLPGA tournament after April 16, 2007 and also be given full exempt status in 2008 and 2009," he said.

He also added that KLPGA also dangled the carrot to China's women professionals. "They have offered Chinese players who finish Top 10 in the ongoing Asia Miles-Binhai Ladies Open (with a three-round total not exceeding 222) to compete in the KLPGA Q-School this year," said Kato, adding that the offers by KLPGA is a testimony of the strength and quality of LAGT.

On behalf of LAGT I wish to thank KLPGA for these offers and hope that they can work hand-in-gloves with LAGT for the development of women's golf in Asia.
