Asian Tour supports Parent-Child pro-am

The Asian Tour is in full support of the parent-child pro-am which is a move that encourages development of the sport at the grassroots level in Indonesia.

The parent-child pro-am, which teed off today, is held in conjunction with the Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational this week.

A total of 10 school goers were provided with an opportunity to tee off with the Asian Tour professionals alongside their parent to expose the young players to top level golf.

The parent-child pro-am is the brainchild of Indonesian Professional Golf Association (PGPI), Indonesian Golf Association (PGI) and event promoter Ancora Sports.

“The response has been great. We are hoping to encourage the junior players to play alongside the Asian Tour professionals and expose them to golf at a different level. Junior development programmes in Indonesia is on the rise and we hope that through moves like this, the quality of the game will improve at the grassroots,” said Ancora Sport Chief Executive Officer Patrick Young.

Asian Tour’s Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han hails the move as a positive step forward in bringing Indonesian golf to the forefront and providing a platform in the creation of future stars.

“The Asian Tour is delighted to be involved with the parent-child pro-am. It is a move that encourages the young enthusiasts to top level golf. It also allows the school goers to mingle with some of Asian Tour's top professional players. The popularity of the sport in Indonesia is growing and we hope to see future stars compete regularly on the Asian Tour,” said Han.
