Liang on top of key Tour stats
If
the 2007 Asian Tour season were to conclude today, then China's
Liang Wen-chong would walk away with the lion's share of the accolades
that the region's talented players battle for each year.
At the halfway stage of the current season, the tenacious Liang
not only leads the race for the prestigious Asian Tour's UBS Order
of Merit trophy but he is also well ahead in the Stats Categories
for Birdie Leader and Lowest Stroke Average.
In 11 tournaments played so far, Liang, who won the Clariden Leu
Singapore Masters and has six other top-10s, holds an impressive
stroke average of 70.30, nearly a half a stroke better than second-ranked
Simon Dyson of England.
Australian veteran Peter Fowler is third with 71.06 after featuring
in sixtournaments in Asia this season, followed by compatriot Leigh
McKechnie on 71.15.
Liang's exciting play has also resulted in him shooting the most
number of birdies with 184 so far to lead the Birdie category, seven
more than Australian Unho Park. Liang's birdies-per-round average
is 4.28, which also sees him leading the category.
Australian Scott Barr is third with 174 birds, followed by compatriot
Marcus Both who has shot two fewer. India's Gaurav Ghei, winner
of the Pine Valley Beijing Open this season, is fifth with 167 birdies.
Liang is also well ahead in the To Par category, although there
is no official award for this statistic. The Chinese star is presently
66-under-par with second-ranked Scott Strange of Australia trailing
in 21-under-par.
Korean veteran Kang Wook-soon, a two-time Asian number one, leads
the Greens in Regulation statistic with his 74% average, followed
closely by Australian Brad Kennedy who has shot 73% of GIR.
Australian Michael Wright presently leads the Putting Average with
1.68 putts per green in regulation, followed by Leigh McKenchnie
and Liang with 1.69.
While there is no award for the player who shoots the most Eagles
in a season, it is worthy to note that big-hitting Australian Scott
Hend, currently third on the UBS Order of Merit, is flying high
this season as he already has eight eagles to his name.
