Thongchai produces best finish of year at PGA

Thai star Thongchai Jaidee produced his best outing of the year at the BMW PGA Championship with a tied eighth finish on Sunday.

The two-time Asian Tour number one fired rounds of 73, 70, 71 and 70 for a 284 total, just four shots behind the play-off duo of Anders Hansen and Justin Rose. Hansen won the title in extra time with a 25-foot birdie conversion on the first hole.

Thongchai closed out his week with a bogey-free round for his sixth top-20 finish of the season.

India's Jeev Milkha Singh, the 2006 Asian Tour's UBS Order of Merit winner, enjoyed a commendable week as well in Wentworth Club with a tied 12th finish. Singh shots rounds of 77, 69, 67 and 72.

He was in contention with an outward 32 in the final round but fell off the pace early on in the back nine with one bogey and a double bogey.

South African James Kingston, a multiple winner in Asia, was tied 41st on 291 while India's Shiv Kapur endured a disappointing weekend with two 81s after moving into contention at the halfway stage with a 67 and 71.

In America, Korean-American Kevin Na, the 2002 Volvo Masters of Asia winner, finished joint seventh in the Crowne Plaza Invitational with rounds of 63, 69, 70 and 68 for a 270 total. Rory Sabbatini won the title after a three-way play-off with Jim Furyk and Bernhard Langer.

Korea's Choi Kyung-ju settled for a share of 24th place on 273 after rounds of 67, 70, 69 and 67 while former Asian regulars Dean Wilson was on 274, followed by Ted Purdy on 275.

In Japan, Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng finished tied fifth in the Mitsubishi Diamond Cup with rounds of 72, 71, 70 and 72 leaving him just three behind winner Tetsuji Hiratsuka.

Compatriot Chawalit Plaphol and Filipino veteran Frankie Minoza were amongst those who shared 42nd place while Prom Meesawat was tied 48th.

Thailand's elder statesman Boonchu Ruangkit finished 40th in the Senior PGA Championship on Sunday with rounds of 72, 79, 70 and 75 for a 296 total. Denis Watson won the title with his winning score of 279.
