Prom blasts superb 65 for second in Japan
Thailands
Prom Meesawat ended his Japan campaign on a high note when he blasted
a superb seven-under-par 65 to claim lone second place at the Sega
Sammy Cup on Sunday.
Prom, with one Asian Tour title under his belt, fired eight birdies
against a dropped shot as he enjoyed his best finish in Japan with
a four-day total of nine-under-par 279. The 22-year-old Thai talent
ended his run three strokes behind champion Toru Taniguchi.
Filipino Frankie Minoza, who won the Philippine Open title this
year, delivered a steady finish when he shot a 70 and claimed joint
sixth position after a 285 total while Chawalit Plaphol of Thailand
carded his best round of 67 in tied 14th place. Chinese Taipeis
Yeh Wei-tze struggled on the final day when he shot a 73 and finished
in tied 32nd spot.
On the US PGA Tour, Kevin Na of Korea improved with a 67 for a 276
total as he claimed tied 32nd place at the John Deere Classic. American
Jonathan Byrd shot a 66 and took the title after a winning total
of 266.
In the Barclays Scottish Open, Indias Jyoti Randhawa remained
steady in the closing stages when he shot his second consecutive
70 for a 280 total and ended in joint 32nd position. Compatriot
Jeev Milkha Singh, the Asian Tours UBS Order of Merit winner
last year, carded a 73 for tied 43rd spot while Koreas Yang
Yong-eun claimed joint 55th position after a 72. Singapores
Mardan Mamat endured a slow finish with a 76 and finished in 66th
place.
Gregory Havret defeated Phil Mickelson in the first playoff hole
for the title.
