Strange and Singh make strong start at Dunhill Links
Asian
Tours Scott Strange enjoyed a solid start at the Alfred Dunhill
Links Championship after a six-under-par 66 in the opening round
on Thursday.
The 30-year-old Australian, with two Asian Tour titles under his
belt, blasted nine birdies against three dropped shots in tied second
position and was a stroke behind leader Steve Webster of England
who shot a 65.
Indias Jeev Milkha Singh, who was last years Asian Tours
UBS Order of Merit winner, produced one of his strongest starts
this season when he carded a 67 in tied sixth place. South African
Anton Haig, the Johnnie Walker Classic champion, was a stroke back
in joint 16th spot alongside Jyoti Randhawa of India while Thai
young gun Prom Meesawat, who won the 2006 SK Telecom Open, was in
tied 30th place after a 69.
On the US PGA Tour, Swedens Daniel Chopra fired a steady five-under-par
65 in the opening round at the Valero Texas Open.
Chopra, a former Asian Tour regular, produced a blemish free round
with five birdies as he was in joint second place and four strokes
behind leader and compatriot Jesper Parnevik who shot a 61.
Indias Arjun Atwal carded a 67 in a tie for 23rd place while
a stroke behind was Australian youngster Jarrod Lyle in joint 32nd
position alongside Ted Purdy of United States. Australias
Andrew Buckle carded three birdies against two bogeys for a 69 in
tied 50th spot while Koreas Charlie endured a slow start after
a 72 in joint 101st place.
