Liang makes even par start in Japan
China’s Liang Wen-chong fired an even par 72 in the opening round of the Japan Open on Thursday to lie in tied 12th place.
Liang, the current Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit leader, carded three birdies against three bogeys and trails leader Kaneme Yokoo by five shots. Thailand’s Prom Meesawat was tied 45th after a 76.
In the Madrid Open, India’s Shiv Kapur carded a 72 for 29th place after the first round while Australian Terry Pilkadaris carded a 74. Daniel Vancsik leads the field with a 65.
In the Frys.com Open in the United States, Sweden’s Daniel Chopra, a former winner in Asia, carded a 66 to share 16th place, three behind co-leaders Bob May and Jason Gore.
Korea’s Kevin Na was a further shot back while Arjun Atwal of India, battling to keep his playing rights on the US Tour, shot a 68 to be placed 48th. Australians Jarrod Lyle and Andrew Buckle, both need good finishes in the season-closing events, shot a 70 and 72 to be well down the leaderboard.
