Liang moves into contention in Japan

China’s Liang Wen-chong charged into contention in the Japan Open with a two-under-par 70 in the second round on Friday.

Liang, the current Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit leader, shot four birdies against two bogeys to lie in tied third place on two-under-par 142, three shots behind leader Kaname Yokoo of Japan.

Thailand’s Prom Meesawat and Prayad Marksaeng were further back on the leaderboard in tied 33rd place on 149 heading into the weekend rounds.

In the Madrid Open, South African James Kingston, a multiple winner in Asia, improved by a massive 11 shots to shoot a 65 in the second round, moving up to 13th place.

India’s Shiv Kapur shot a 70 for a share of 15th place on 142 while Australian Terry Pilkadaris was in a share of 23rd position following a 69 on 143.. The lead was jointly held by Alejandro Canizares and Daniel Vancsik on 135.

In the Frys.com open, Australian Jarrod Lyle shot a fine 66 to move up to 32nd place on 136. Lyle, playing in his rookie season on the US Tour, needs several big finishes over the coming weeks to retain his playing rights.

India’s Arjun Atwal, in the same boat as Lyle, carded a 69 and was lying in 45th position on 137. The lead was shared by three players on 130.
