Lyle leaps up to fourth in US
Australian young gun Jarrod Lyle produced a solid six-under-par 64 as he leaped into contention at the Fry’s Electronics Open on Saturday.
Lyle, 26, enjoyed a bogey free round firing six birdies for a three-day total of 10-under-par 200 in tied fourth place as he trailed leader Carl Pettersson of Sweden by three strokes.
Lyle is currently in 117th spot on the money list and is in a good position to secure his card for next season. Only the top-125 players will retain their card for next year on the US PGA Tour.
In Japan, Chinese Taipei’s Lin Keng-chi posted his best round of 67 as he rose to joint 11th position at the Bridgestone Open on Saturday.
Lin was seven strokes behind third round leader Shingo Katayama who shot a similar for a 202 total.
Thailand’s Chawalit Plaphol was in a tie for 16th place after a 69 alongside compatriot Prayad Marksaeng who slipped after an even-par performance for a three-day total of 206.
In Europe, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand leaped up to tied 14th position after carding his best round of six-under-par 66 at the Portugal Masters.
Thongchai, a two-time Asian number one, enjoyed a bogey free third round with six birdies for a 204 total. Thongchai, with eight Asian Tour titles under his belt, was six strokes behind leader Daniel Vancsik of Argentina.
India’s Shiv Kapur and South African James Kingston fired matching 70s in a tie for 30th spot. Jeev Milkha Singh of India, the 2006 Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit leader, fired a similar score as he was also in joint 30th place after a 207 total.
