Singh and Prayad joint second in Japan
Defending champion Jeev Milkha Singh and Prayad Marksaeng of Thailand remained in the hunt at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup as they were in joint second position after the second round on Friday.
Singh, who was the 2006 Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit winner, remained steady firing a two-under-par 68 while Prayad shot a 67 for a 137 total and was five strokes behind leader Shingo Katayama who posted his second straight 66.
After a solid start, China’s Liang Wen-chong slid down the ranks after a 73 to lie in tied ninth position for a 140 total. Liang, who currently leads the UBS Order of Merit race, was a stroke ahead of Filipino veteran Frankie Minoza who improved with a 69 to rise to joint 15th place.
Gunning for a successful title defence, Singh shot four birdies against two bogeys in day two at the Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club. Prayad was five under after 14 holes before a double bogey on the 15th hole and closed in with a birdie and a bogey on the 17th and 18th holes respectively.
