Jones fires 61 to win as Jeev and Liang tie for third

A costly double bogey finish saw Jeev Milkha Singh of India miss out on a victory at the Golf Nippon JT Series in Japan on Sunday.

Singh, the defending champion, had entered the last round as the leader but failed to hold on to the title as he was overtaken by Australian Brendan Jones, who closed with a sizzling 61 to win by one shot.

Singh finished tied third after signing off with a 68. He had stayed in contention with a run of four birdies from the 13th to 17th holes but carded a five in the par three closing hole.

China’s Liang Wen-chong, who heads to this week’s Volvo Masters of Asia in his bid to secure the Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit, enjoyed a tied third finish as well after carding rounds of 67, 73, 65 and 66.

Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng was joint ninth with cards of 70, 67, 68 and 68 while Frankie Minoza of the Philippines settled for a share of 17th place on 277.
