Charlie Wi makes a big move at Wachovia
Korea's
Charlie Wi made a big leap up the leaderboard at the star-studded
Wachovia Championship when he carded a second round of four-under-par
68 on Friday.
The Asian Tour star shot five birdies and one eagle at Quaill Hollow
Country Club for a two-day total of 142, which left him in a share
of 15th place at the halfway stage of the tournament and just four
behind the lead.
World number one Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Arron Oberholser share
the lead on 138.
Former Asian Tour regular Ted Purdy is also in contention after
a 69 left him just one off the pace. He carded five birdies for
a 139 total.
Korea's Choi Kyung-ju slipped back to a 144 total after adding a
74 to his opening 70 in the US PGA Tour event.
In the rain-interrupted Italian Open, India's Jyoti Randhawa made
a move up to tied 29th place after playing 10 holes of his second
round in three-under. With his four under total, Randhawa, runner-up
in Spain last week, is presently six shots behind leaders Alvaro
Quiros, Markus Brier and Joakim Backstrom.
India's Jeev Milkha Singh, the Asian Tour's UBS Order of Merit champion
last year, is three under for the tournament and did not play a
single hole of his second round on Friday because of the inclement
weather.
In South Africa, Asian Tour member Hendrik Buhrmann was tied fourth
after the third round of the Samsung Royal Swazi Open. In the modified
stableford event, Burhmann accumulated 10 points in the third round
for a total of 34 points and trails leader George Coetzee by seven
points.
Asian old hand Des Terblanche was second after 13 points on Friday,
just three off the pace going into the final round.
