Bigger Faldo Series Asia announced for 2007
Nick
Faldo today announced the Faldo Series Asia schedule for 2007 which
features 11 tournaments in nine different territories across Asia,
including the Faldo Series Asia grand final at Mission Hills Golf
Club in Shenzhen, China on December 12 to 14.
Supported by Mission Hills, The R&A and UBS, highlights of the
2007 schedule include new Faldo Series Asia (FSA) events
in Indonesia and Thailand; plus a total of three tournaments in
China, including an inaugural championship in the Yunnan province
in addition to the existing China championship and grand final,
both at Mission Hills.
The Faldo-designed Lakeview Golf Club in Kunming will host the FSA
Yunnan championship; Damai Indah Golf and Country Club, host to
the 2007 Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open, will be the venue for
the first ever FSA Indonesia championship; and Rose Garden Golf
Course near Bangkok will host the inaugural event in Thailand. Thailand,
along with Malaysia, will also introduce qualifying events which
will serve as feeders to a final in each of those respective
countries.
Sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation,
up to six players from each of the Faldo Series Asia events
which also return to Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Singapore
and UAE in 2007 will qualify to compete in the prestigious
Faldo Series Asia grand final, hosted by Faldo in December at Mission
Hills, 12 year venue for the Omega Mission Hills World Cup and home
of the Faldo Series Asia.
Those players will aim to follow in the footsteps of the 2006 champion,
18-year-old Nakarin Ratanakul of Thailand, whose victory earned
him a round with Faldo the following day, a place in the Faldo Series
grand final in Europe and, courtesy of the Asian Tour, a start in
the Volvo Masters of Asia and a scholarship to stage one of Asian
Tour qualifying school.
Six-time Major winner Faldo commented: During 2006 we welcomed
hundreds of talented golfers to our events and, at the same time,
we created access to the game for a significant number of children.
We finished the season with a first-class grand final and we crowned
a champion who I believe has a big future in the game.
Looking ahead, I am excited to be announcing a bigger schedule
for 2007 in only our second season. Thanks to the support from the
host organisations and some first-class venues, plus the commitment
from Mission Hills, The R&A and UBS, I believe we can provide
even more grass-roots opportunities across Asia this year and, at
the same time, continue to help develop the regions next generation
of champions.
