Asian Tour stars turn out for youth at First Tee
Stars
from the Asian Tour joined forces with the First Tee of Singapore
and competed in its Fourth Annual Golf Tournament on Thursday.
The Asian Tour has been a key supporter of The First Tee of Singapore
since last year where it focuses on the development of young talents
through golf.
The Annual Golf Tournament is the latest of many events and clinics
organised in conjunction with the Asian Tour to provide young enthusiasts
the opportunity to learn from Asia's top professionals.
A total of 10 junior golfers and 20 amateur players teed off alongside
10 Asian Tour stalwarts at the Singapore Island Country Club.
Gerry Norquist, a five-time winner in Asia and now the Tour's Senior
Vice President for Commercial Development, led the field alongside
Singaporean duo Mardan Mamat and compatriot Lam Chih Bing
Lam has supported the First Tee of Singapore, a non-profit organization,
as he had also participated in the first golf clinic organised by
the Asian Tour during the Barclays Singapore Open last year. The
clinic had attracted 70 kids from The First Tee of Singapore then.
Other top Asian Tour stalwarts who played with the youngsters included
Filipinos Angelo Que and Cookie Lao, Australia's Scott Barr and
Unho Park, Danny Chia of Malaysia, Hong Kongs James Stewart
and Myanmars Zaw Moe.
Among the lucrative prizes on offer at the First Tee Annual Golf
Tournament were a luxury car for a hole-in-one, top of the line
watches, business class tickets and golf clubs.
The kids were previously given a rare opportunity to meet the pros
during The First Tees Annual Mini Golf Tournament last September.
The continuing efforts between the Asian Tour and the First Tee
of Singapore is a positive development towards the growth of the
sport among the young golfers.
