Lin to miss Open despite second place finish

Poor weather denied Chinese Taipei veteran Lin Keng-chi a place at next month's Open Championship despite finishing tied second in the 54-hole Mizuno Open Yomiuri Classic.

The top-four finishers in the event earned tickets to Carnoustie, Scotland for the year's third Major but Lin lost out on a countback with a higher second round score after organisers cut short the tournament following inclement weather.

Lin had earlier shot rounds of 68, 72 and 68 for a 208 total, four strokes behind Korean winner Lee Dong-hwan.

China's Liang Wen-chong, the current leader on the Asian Tour's UBS Order of Merit, settled for a share of 13th place on 211 while Lu Wen-teh of Chinese Taipei, the recent Macau Open champion, earned tied 19th place on 212. Thailand's Prom Meesawat finished joint 29th on 214.

In the BMW International Open, India's Jyoti Randhawa continued his superb run of form this season with a tied 11th finish in Munich, shooting rounds of 70, 69, 73 and 69 for a 281 total.

Randhawa, Asia's number one in 2002, was six shots behind winner Niclas Fasth of Sweden. England's Simon Dyson was also tied 11th with Randhawa after rounds of 72, 66, 73 and 70.

Reigning UBS Order of Merit champion Jeev Milkha Singh enjoyed another solid outing after earning joint 18th position with rounds of 69, 72, 70 and 71. A fortnight ago, the Indian star had finished 36th in the US Open for his best Major outing yet of his career.

Another Indian, Shiv Kapur was a further stroke back in equal 22nd position after signing off the week with a 68.

In the Travelers Championship in the United States, Korean American Kevin Na recorded his third top-10 of the season following rounds of 70, 67, 69 and 67 for a 273 total. Hunter Mahan won the title after a play-off against Jay Williamson.

India's Arjun Atwal shot his lowest round of the season with a final round 64 which vaulted him into a share of 29th place. It was a welcome return to form as it ended a run of five missed cuts in a row on the US PGA Tour.

Australian Andrew Buckle shared 46th place on 281 after rounds of 71, 70, 72 and 68.
