Dyson to defend Indonesia crown

England's Simon Dyson will be back to defend his Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open title from February 15-18.

It was announced today that 2005 champion Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand, who is a former Asian Tour number one, will also grace the US$1 million event which is jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.

This year's event will take place at the Damai Indah Golf and Country Club, Pantai Indah Kapuk. Organisers have also confirmed that two-time Asian number one Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand will also make an appearance in the event.

Secretary General of Indonesian Golf Associations (PGI), Bpk. Z. Soedjais, said, “PGI is excited to have star players like Thongchai Jaidee, Thaworn Wirachant and the defending champion Simon Dyson back in the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open 2007."

The Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open 2007 is conducted in close partnership with Astro paid TV as the co-title sponsor, and the Enjoy Jakarta program that was launched by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism to elevate the country’s tourism industry, in particular the Jakarta region, on the world stage.

“We expect that this tournament will help enhance the image of Indonesia as a viable country capable of holding international events,” explained Ir. Yusuf Effendi Pohan, MPA, Head of the DKI Jakarta Tourism Board.

Meanwhile Nelia Molato-Sutrisno, CEO of PT Direct Vision (Astro) said, “We are very proud to sponsor a major event as the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open 2007 golf tournament. We hope that this will lead Astro’s commitment towards the improvement of sports and tourism in Indonesia. Together we can show to the international world that Indonesia is a safe country and an excellent destination for global travel.”
