Choi passes first hurdle at Match Play

Korea’s Choi Kyung-ju is on the right track in Arizona when he defeated Carl Petterson in the first round of the Accenture Match Play Championship on Wednesday.

Choi, a former Asian Tour regular, beat the Swedish talent two and one and will face Henrik Stenson in the second round. It was a tight battle but Choi made it all square when he birdied the 11th hole. The Korean kept the pace and birdied the par four 15th hole to go one up before a par on the 17th sealed his place in the next round.

Compatriot Yang Yong-eun was out of contention when he was defeated by Australia's Rod Pampling five and four. India’s Jeev Milkha Singh, last year’s Asian Tour’s UBS Order of Merit, also suffered an early exit when he lost to Stewart Cink three and two.

Tiger Woods defeated J.J Henry three and two as he will face Tim Clark in the second round.
