Choi gets third top ten finish of 2007
Korea's
Choi Kyung-ju enjoyed a tied sixth finish in his defence of the
PODS Championship on Sunday for his third top-10 of the season on
the US PGA Tour.
The Asian stalwart signed off with a one-over-par 71, made up of
three birdies against four bogeys, for a 277 total, three shots
behind winner Mark Calcavecchia. Choi had earlier registered rounds
of 69, 69 and 66 to move into contention.
In the final day, two bogeys down the stretch proved decisive for
Choi, who has won four times on the US PGA Tour. His compatriot
Charlie Wi, a seven-time winner on the Asian Tour, settled for a
joint 43rd finish with rounds of 72, 69, 70 and 74 for a 285 total.
American Dean Wilson, who cut his teeth on the Asian Tour in the
1990s, was equal 19th on 281 while Sweden's Daniel Chopra, a former
winner of the Mercuries Taiwan Masters, was a further stroke back
in tied 27th place.
In South Africa, former Tour regular Des Terblanche finished tied
second in the Mt Edgecome Trophy after rounds of 65, 72, 69 and
71, one stroke behind winner Steve Van Vuuren. Chris Williams was
a further two strokes back after closing with a 71.
