Choi finishes tied 19th at WGC-CA Championship
Englishman
Simon Dyson took charge in the opening round when he delivered a
strong four-under-par 67 at the Estoril Open de Portugal on Thursday.
Dyson, a four-time winner on the Asian Tour, enjoyed a solid opening
day performance with an eagle, three birdies against a lone bogey
on the European Tour event.
The 29-year-old leader, who won the co-sanctioned Indonesia Open
last year, battled the winds and took a one stroke lead over compatriot
Ross McGowan, Scotlands Stephen Gallacher, and Louis Oosthuzen
of South Africa.
On the US PGA Tour, Swedens Daniel Chopra enjoyed a smooth
start when he fired a four-under-par 68 at the Shell Houston Open.
Chopra, a former Asian Tour regular, carded five birdies against
a lone dropped shot in joint 10th place at the Redstone Golf Club.
Koreas Choi Kyung-ju delivered a strong finish to his round
as he scored a 70 and was in tied 26th position. Starting on the
back nine, Choi endured a slow start with a bogey on the 16th hole
followed by a double bogey on the first. But the 36-year-old Korean
bounced back in style with a birdie on the second hole followed
by four straight birdies on the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth
holes.
Indias Jeev Milkha Singh, the Asian Tours UBS Order
of Merit winner last year, had a roller coaster opening day as he
shot a 73 and was in joint 73rd place while Charlie Wi of Korea
scored a 74 in tied 85th place.
