Choi off to steady start at Wachovia
Korea's
Choi Kyung-ju shot five birdies en route to an opening round of
two-under-par 70 in the Wachovia Championship on the US PGA Tour
on Thursday.
The Asian stalwart, better known as KJ, ended the day in a share
of 15th place, four behind leader Padraig Harrington of Ireland,
and amongst those tied with him include world number one Tiger Woods
and Phil Mickelson.
Former Asian Tour regulars Ted Purdy and Dean Wilson shot 70 and
72 respectively while Korea's Charlie Wi carded a 74 for tied 79th
place.
In the Italian Open, India's Jeev Milkha Singh, the Asian Tour's
UBS Order of Merit champion last season, opened his campaign with
a bogey free 69 for joint 39th place, seven shots off the lead held
by Jaokim Backstrom.
Compatriot Jyoti Randhawa, who finished second in the Spanish Open
last weekend, carded a 70 for 70th position while Asian Tour member
David Bransdon of Australia shot a 73.
In the Samsung Royal Swazi Sun Open played on a modified stableford
format, Asian Tour member Hendrik Buhrmann is lying in tied eighth
place with 24 points at the halfway stage. He is four points behind
leader Grant Muller.
