Choi in contention for final round
Koreas Choi Kyung-ju bounced back on the third day when he
fired a two-under-par 71 at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii.
Choi grabbed the opening round lead after a 69 but lost grip after
a 77 in the second round. He regained his momentum after scoring
three birdies against a lone bogey at the Kapalua Resort on Saturday
and is now in joint 10th place with a three-day total of two-under-par
217.
Fijian Vijay Singh maintained his lead at the top after a 70 three
strokes ahead of Australian Adam Scott who shot a 69 for a 211 total
alongside South African Trevor Immelman who remained in joint second
after a 72.
The Mercedes-Benz Championship is the season-opening event on the
US PGA Tour that is exclusive to tournament winners. Choi booked
his spot when he lifted his fourth title in the US at the Chrysler
Championship last year.
