Choi finishes tied eighth in Hawaii

Korea’s Choi Kyung-ju ended his Hawaiian campaign on a high note after a solid four-under-par 69 at the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Sunday.

Choi finished in joint eighth place as he fired five birdies against a lone bogey on the final day at the Kapalua Resort for a six-under-par 286 total.

Fijian Vijay Singh ended his commanding run with a second straight 70 and took the title with a 278 total, two strokes ahead of Australia’s Adam Scott who scored his third straight 69. South African Trevor Immelman finished third after a 72 for a 283 total.

The Mercedes-Benz Championship is the first event on the US PGA Tour this season and was only for tournament winners. Choi qualified when he claimed the Chrysler Championship last year, his fourth title in the US.
