Choi takes second straight top 10 finish

Korea's Choi Kyung-ju extended his strong start to the new season on the US PGA Tour when he finished tied fourth in the Sony Open in Hawaii on Sunday.

It was his second straight top-10 finish in as many outings since the US Tour came out of winter hibernation and Choi certainly showed that his game has been hot with another impressive display.

He fired rounds of 64, 71, 68 and 68 for a 271 total and finished five shots behind winner Paul Goydos. Choi, who finished joint eighth in the previous week's Mercedes-Benz Championship, overcame an opening bogey with three birdies in his round.

Australian Andrew Buckle, who finished fifth in last season's Asian Tour's UBS Order of Merit, enjoyed a steady start in his rookie season on the US Tour with a tied 28th finish. Buckle carded rounds of 68, 72, 70 and 66 for a 276 total.

Sweden's Daniel Chopra, who has won in Asia previously, was also tied 28th.

Another Australian, Jarrod Lyle, also enjoyed four rounds in Hawaii, shooting cards of 68, 71, 71 and 68 to finish in tied 42nd place.

Korea's Charlie Wi and Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines, who earned an exemption after winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2006, missed the halfway cut.

Meanwhile, Asian Tour members Terry Pilkadaris of Australia and South African James Kingston enjoyed top-10 outings in the inaugural Joburg Open which concluded in South Africa on Sunday.

Pilkadaris, a three-time winner in Asia, enjoyed a strong finish by closing with a four-under-par 67 for an 11-under-par 274 total while Kingston signed off with a 70. Argentinean Ariel Canete won the event by two strokes with his 266 total.

Pilkadaris fired three birdies and a superb eagle-two on the par four ninth hole during his final round while Kingston's card included three birdies, one eagle against four bogeys.

Another Asian Tour member Keith Horne finished tied 12th in the event jointly sanctioned by the Southern African and European Tours. South Africa's Horne ended his week with a 68 to finish on 275.

Hendrik Burhmann, who broke through last season with a victory at the inaugural Aamby Valley Asian Masters in India, settled for equal 73rd place while Australian Simon Nash was lower down the leaderboard in 80th position.
